Perseverance and Push Back in 19th Century Toronto
Awaken a new perspective with Mackenzie House on this neighbourhood
walking tour and hear stories of brave members of Toronto's diverse
communities in the 19th century, like Mary Ann Shadd Cary, the
first Black woman to publish a newspaper in North America, and
Henry Lewis, who escaped enslavement by one of Toronto's most
prominent families. The walk begins at Mackenzie House at 82 Bond
Street, and finishes at King & Jarvis Streets.
